Known as the “Gallo de Oro,” he’s a Mexican singer born in the town of Etchoja Jitonhueca, where he lived until moving to Guadalajara, Jal, and later settling -with his father, the great Lalo “El Gallo” Elizalde, and his brother- in Guasave Sinaloa. From a young age, perhaps recognizing the artistic legacy his father left him, he began to feel a special interest for music, an interest which grew even stronger after his father's death in an automobile accident. The son began a career with his own style, giving free rein to an authentic and original beat. One June 24, celebrating the San Juan festivities at a venue in Bancame Nuevo, he had his first major onstage performance and received his first payment for a performance that was so successful, it pushed Valentín to work on his debut album, released in 1999 and called “Regresan los mafiosos.” This was followed by “Traición federal” (2000,) “17 Éxitos en honor a mi padre” (2001,) “En vivo” (2005,) “Soy así” (2005,) and “Vencedor” (2006,) successful albums that had significant radio distribution in Mexico and the US, considerably increasing Elizalde’s fan base.
Sadly, “El Gallo de Oro” was murdered by a band of hit-men while leaving a performance in Reynosa Tamaulipas, early in the morning of November 25, 2006. Valentín received numerous bullet wounds and died instantly, along with his chauffeur and representative. Today, authorities continue investigating this sad act that is apparently related to supposed money issues with the powerful Reynosa drug dealer, known as Jaime González Duran, “El Hummer.” Meanwhile, other sources assure that his death is linked to the music video for the song “A mis enemigos.” |
